a few + исчисляемые множественного числа (a few colleagues, a few questions); a little + неисчисляемые (a little money, a little patience, a little advice).
Без «a» смысл меняется: few / little = «мало, почти нет» (отрицательно), a few / a little = «немного, достаточно».
