Кратко о правиле · B2

Past Simple ставим при конкретном завершённом времени (last summer, in 2010, before moving) — даже если действие длилось долго: He lived there for five years before he moved.

Present Perfect — при связи с настоящим или незавершённом периоде (since, so far, this week, recently). «For + период» бывает в обоих временах — решает контекст (действие ещё длится → Present Perfect).
